I got word a few weeks ago that I have been chosen to be one of the photographers at The Pin Show in Dallas on February 25th.
I have been chosen as the back-stage seamless/backdrop photographer. Basically, the models puts on their assigned outfit, come through my “photo booth” for a few pictures then proceed to the runway. They change clothes back stage then repeat.
This is the third year The Pin Show has taken place, this year’s show features 31 designers, two live photo shoots, and an on-site boutique. I am honored to be a part of this group of great designers, and to have been chosen along side so many other talented photographers.
From The Pin Show Website:
The Pin Show 2010 will take place on Thursday February 25th at the renewed Historic Union Station in downtown Dallas, TX. This fabulous Independent event will feature 31 independent fashion and accessory designers showcasing over 130 – 2010 looks on the runway. Beyond the runway you will witness live photo shoots on two styled sets, mingle with designers and even get the rare opportunity to purchase your favorite look right off the runway before it hits stores.
The Pin Show was founded by Independent Designers Rachel Nichelson and Julie McCullough Kim in 2007 to provide all emerging fashion industry designers, photographers, artists, stylists and retail buyers a profound launching platform for independent work in the fashion industry. Realizing that Dallas is a central hub for Fashion it only made sense to create this new avenue for the emergering talent in this industry that is located between New York and LA. The Pin Show will provide regional boutiques and buyers an opportunity to view these independent lines during one showcase and give them a chance to meet the designers personally to discuss future opportunities. In addition it will provide the public a unique fashion experience that is generally reserved for high end designers and their clientele. Retail buyers and reps will have the opportunity to see the latest lines from independent-regional designers and meet with them prior to the show at the VIP reception to discuss future business relationships.
The Pin Show is held annually with an attendance of 1200-1500 to allow independent designers to showcase their Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer lines during the winter buying season that retailers and buyers are looking to make such purchasing decisions.
Designers, Stylists, Make-up & Hair Artists, Photographers, Volunteers and respective Buyers are encouraged to visit the participate section of our website to find out how the can become involved.

I had the great opportunity a few weeks ago to do a test shoot for a couple models from The Mattison Agency. Ty sent over Crystal and Sarah. I also got to work with Melanie a very talented makeup artist, and my clothing stylist friend Marchlena.
A while back, I purchased an Orbis Ring Flash Adapter, but I’ve only pulled it out of my bag once. I thought this looked like a great opportunity to give it a workout, so I pulled it out of my bag along with my Canon 580EX; it worked pretty well, though I did have to crank the ISO up a bit to get enough light to the wall…which is really not a problem for my 5DMark2. This combination doesn’t have nearly as much power as the Alien Bees ABR800 I’ve used to own. The other shots were taken with an Alien Bees B800 with a 22″ beauty dish and 40°grid.
Thanks to Ty for sending over such great models to work with .
