The final bunch
Thanks Lisa for the interesting exercise.
8-Things I’m passionate about…Things I want to do before I die…Things I say often….Books I’ve read recently…
Songs I could listen to over and over…
Things that attract me to my best friends….
8 Songs I could listen to over and over (in no particular order):
- If I needed you - Townes Van Zandt
- It’s a hit - Rilo Kiley
- Closer to you - Brandi Carlile (I’d pretty much listen to all of her stuff over and over and over, man she has got soul.
- Wild Is The Wind - Cat Power version from The Covers Record
- I will follow you into the dark - Deathcab for Cutie
- Open your Eyes - Snow Patrol
- Me and Mia - Ted Leo and the Pharmacists
- Tranquilize - The Killers
I could name way way more than 8. That was just a quick run through my iTunes list. We’ve been to so many great concerts in the last 18 months I can’t even begin to talk about all that here. So much good music out there right now.
Brandi Carlile, Cat Power, Snow Patrol, The Killers, Rilo Kiley, Joseph Arthur, Bob Dylan, Feist, Death Cab for Cutie, Neko Case, Ryan Adams, Fischerspooner, Old 97’s, I could go on and on and on.
8 Things that attract me to my best friends (I’m stealing a lot of these from Lisa because they apply, and she’s my friend so she’ll understand.)….
1. They love me despite my dorky nerd tendencies (and sometimes because of).
2. They fully support me and encourage me
3. They are interesting, confident, strong, intelligent, and beautiful from many angles inside and out.
4. Their dorky nerd tendencies- each in their own way.
5. Laughter. They know how to laugh real good. They make me laugh real good.
6. They are good people, or overall they try to be.
7. They have maintained our friendship even though I’m across the country
8. I am constantly learning something from them.
So, there you have it. It’s been a fun month, I posted over 50% of the days, way more than I’ve done in any month since I started writing this blog. I already can’t wait to do this next year.
And now for some pictures of my favorite person…

8 Things I Say Often
- I love you
- No Worries
- Holy Crap
- Hey Lambchop (to Daphne)
- Honey, I can’t hear you (Liz likes to talk to me while my head is beside a loud noise like running water or the stereo speakers). I suppose this could also be that I have bad hearing, but I had it checked for work a year or so ago, and it said “Better than Average”
- You’re so amazing and beautiful (I don’t go around saying this, just to a specific person but you could probably guess who)
- Time to wake up (I say this A LOT)
- You’re Kidding. I’m not sure why I say that a lot, but I do find myself saying that a lot.
8 Books I’ve read recently…
I guess I won’t get any points with Amazon for linking, but here goes:
- Walking on Water: Reading, Writing, and Revolution - Derrick Jensen
- Blink:The Power of Thinking Without Thinking - Malcom Gladwell
- The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can make a Big Difference-Malcom Gladwell
- Between a Rock and a Hard Place- Aron Ralston. It got surprisingly good reviews, but I think he’s really lucky he’s not dead, and I felt like he really didn’t learn from any of his near death encounters he faced prior to having to cut his own arm off with a pocket knife. I didn’t like the book at all)
- A Million Little Pieces - James Frey. Don’t get me started on the whole Oprah thing. It was a good book, not sure any human could really endure what he claims he went through, which now apparently isn’t true.
- My Friend Leonard. Same story as above. Both of his books are brilliantly written, though.
- I am currently trying to work my way through The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas J. Stanley, but it’s been a struggle to get through.
- The Knot Ultimate Wedding Planner: Worksheets, Checklists, Etiquette, Calendars, and Answers to Frequently Asked Questions and Bridal Bargains, 8th Edition: Secrets to throwing a fantastic wedding on a realistic budget (Bridal Bargains). I’ll count them as one book, but they’ve been quite handy over the past year. Thanks to Elisa for the recommendations.
Taken on the doormat outside our front door:
I got tagged by a VIP
I’ve been in a posting slump for over a week now, and I just realized that Lisa tagged me here then didn’t notify my that I had been tagged (or if she did, I somehow missed it in a nablopomo frenzy.) I read the post, but must not have gotten all the way to the bottom to see that I had been tagged. It is after all, 64 things that I need to come up with.

Things I’m passionate about…
Things I want to do before I die…
Things I say often….

Songs I could listen to over and over…
Things that attract me to my best friends….
By the end of the week, I will try to answer all of these. I think I over-stretched myself a bit at the beginning of the month, I came on strong but posted a few too many cat photos. And I forgot that this whole thing is supposed to be fun.
I’ll start with the first one, and the 8 are listed in no particular order:
8 Things I’m Passionate About:
1. Anyone who knows me I love Ice Cream. I’m having it shipped in from Texas to Maryland just for my wedding reception. That’s serious dedication to a wonderful substance.
2. Music is also another thing that I am passionate about. I’m always fiddling with my iTunes library, making sure that I have new music to listen to. Always sharing new artists back and forth with Liz, always looking for that new great musician. My musical interests have changed a lot in the last couple years, but I’m happy with the direction it’s going.
3. Photography is somewhat of a renewed interest. Maybe an interest because my dad always walked around with his camera? I’m not really sure…
4. Family has always been important to me, I may not have always acted like it, but I think as I get older I am really seeing how important family is, especially now as I have my own family.
5. Staying Positive
I learned something from OddTodd a few years ago, that staying positive is always better than letting negative energy take over.
6. Liz (not a thing, she’s a person). I am wild about this woman.
7. My Friends. I don’t have a lot of friends, but the ones I have in my life I really care for. Every single one of them has characteristics that I admire.
8. Coffee. Anyone who has seen my coffee pot or witnessed first hand the ritual I go through every single morning would understand. I’m getting ready to some more beans….mmmm….lavazza super crema, I can’t wait.
8 Things I want to do before I die…
1. Travel…we made a list a while back of places both domestically and abroad that we’d like to get to. Should be quite doable, especially with our new fancy passport photos.
2. Stop paying rent. I’ve been a renter ever since I got out of college, and would like to buy a house. Should be doable soon, since I’m settling down and all.
3. Sell a photograph. Might be doable, I don’t just mean wedding photography, i’d like to have someone see my work and say “how much, I have a fat wallet!”
4. Own a sportscar. I know that’s a totally dudely midlife-crisisy thing to say, but I just like to drive, and I have a lot of fun driving. A Porsche Cayman or a BMW M3 would be nice, but I’m not that picky. I’d settle for a GTI. German is a requirement. I suppose I’d be ok with a Ferrari, but let’s be at least somewhat realistic. Living in Virginia with the new abusive drivers fees, it’s not going to happen while I live here. I already paid my $180 speeding ticket for doing 60 in a 35, and was very lucky I didn’t get hit with wreckless driving. I drive the speed limit now.
5. Take a cross country vacation with my family. It’s just me and liz right now, and if it’s the two of us, then I’m happy with that. If it’s the two of us and some little rug rats then great!!
6. Skydive. Kind of a strange one, I suppose, but It’s always been an interest, and if George Bush senior can do it at 83, then I should be able to do it at some point.
7. Take a cooking class. I love to cook for me, for Liz. I usually just take a recipe out of a book and make it my own, but I’d like to learn how to come up with something great from scratch. I can’t really do that just yet.
8. Lasik. Ok…so it’s not a life or death thing, but I’d like to be able to see the alarm clock in the morning. I don’t wanna mess with contacts or glasses any more.
I will try to get to the rest of the 8 things by the end of the week…this is a good start for now.
And just to post a picture, here’s one I took last weekend with my ring light. I would like to begin to shoot some series of photos, rather than just having a bunch of individual pictures. I think this will go with the other leaves, and I’ll post another tomorrow.
Very very busy weekend
It has been a very very busy weekend. We’ve been doing a lot of wedding planning, flowers, cakes, priests, you name it. So, I didn’t really take any pictures, and there’s not a lot of time left this weekend. For a little extra reading, check out the bar on the left to see some of the blog postings i’ve read that I marked as “share-worthy”.
