Test Shoot – The Mattison Agency

I had the great opportunity a few weeks ago to do a test shoot for a couple models from The Mattison Agency. Ty sent over Crystal and Sarah. I also got to work with Melanie a very talented makeup artist, and my clothing stylist friend Marchlena.

A while back, I purchased an Orbis Ring Flash Adapter, but I’ve only pulled it out of my bag once. I thought this looked like a great opportunity to give it a workout, so I pulled it out of my bag along with my Canon 580EX; it worked pretty well, though I did have to crank the ISO up a bit to get enough light to the wall…which is really not a problem for my 5DMark2. This combination doesn’t have nearly as much power as the Alien Bees ABR800 I’ve used to own. The other shots were taken with an Alien Bees B800 with a 22″ beauty dish and 40°grid.

Meryl is a model from the UK now living in Northern Virginia. She only started modeling about the same time I started taking pictures and really beginning to build my portfolio. She did pretty well in the tryouts for America’s Next Top Model, when they were looking for models 5’7″ and under. Ultimately, however, she did not make it into the show (this time…she will get her shot, that’s for sure). She does most of her own styling (though we worked together on this shoot) and would love to find a great agency to represent her. Makeup was by the terrific Ky Washington of Richie Makeup.

After Liz and I made our last trek to NYC a few weeks ago, I was really itching to do a photo shoot along the lines of the Richard Avedon photos we saw at the International Center of Photography or at the Metropolitan Museum. They were so inspiring, and I’m so happy that we were finally able to see these exhibits (we missed them on our first trip to NYC).

All in all, we had a great time, and I hope to be able to shoot with Meryl again soon.

Fashion with Charlotte

I’ve been trying for a while now to set up some photo shoots with some of the girls down at Maudes. Claire and I were finally able to come up with a date and time, and we were able to find an incredible makeup artist, Liz as well. Claire found Charlotte through a casting call via Facebook and we were all set. I couldn’t believe Charlotte had never done a shoot before, she is definitely a natural.
