NaBloPoMo, Day 1, oh…it’s already the 2nd

So, I guess I’m already a day behind for National Blog Posting Month(NaBloPoMo). Welcome any new readers to my little blog/website. The wife and I are visiting my parents in Texas, and I had an opportunity to take photos of my little sister and her fiancee, Chris. So far I’ve just looked at them on the back of my camera, and there are some really great shots so far, at least on the little 2.5" screen of my 30D. I used a couple of voice activated light stands (my dad and sister) to help with the shots. I should have them up in a few days.

I have lots of ideas of posts for the month, but I"m not sure if I can come up with 31 separate postings. We’ll give it a try. I’m hoping to not get tagged by a lot of people with the "list your favorite 8 this or that" again this year, although since I was a little bit desperate for posts by the end of the month, I did participate in a few of those.

For now, since I do try to keep this blog centered around my photography, I will post my #1 picture from my Flickr account, and I do believe it’s been posted here before. We weren’t sure if our wedding photographer got any shots of my lovely wife’s bouquet, so I took this on Sunday morning, while her parents were visiting.

So, we’ll see what this month brings to jeremyreitman.com. Last year my stats soared, and since i’ve been posting more and more this year (as I’ve taken lots more photos) i’ve had a fair number of visitors every day.

And, here’s another one, but this time one of my favorites, taken with my Yashica Mat 124G TLR Camera, which I bought from ebay.

Some Film – Shannon and Melissa

Since I’ve been shooting a lot lately, I’ve taken the opportunity to get out the Yashica again, as well as a Pentax Super ME that was given to me by a coworker. I bought a cheap used 50mm f2 lens from B&H to make the Pentax a super light portable 35mm camera. When I got my film back from shooting w/Shannon, there were several frames that ended up double and triple exposed. I’m not really sure how that happened, but some of them actually looked really neat. It’s weird to me the different looks of the lighting and the effects the film gives you. These were all shot against a grey background, but depending on the film, I end up with either a greyish or blueish background.

I still have a lot of learning to do to be able to shoot both film and digital. With film I am learning that if I’m not sure I have the shot, then I definitely don’t have it. With both of these film cameras I own, it is nice because they both make me really slow down, meter, set exposure, meter again and then shoot, then…wait for the lab to process the negatives.

Its no big deal, but…

My photo got used this morning on the DCist website. I’ve been occasionally contributing photos to them, hoping one day to get picked for the "picture of the day", but this is the first time one of my photos has been used. You can read the entire story here.

Liz and I went to the Corcoran to see the Richard Avedon exhibit (which was great) on Saturday and just happened to park near where the accident happened. I took one of my film cameras down with me and we happened across the cleanup effort. Had to make sure I finished the roll so I could get pictures uploaded that afternoon. I’m glad Foto Image was able to get my negatives developed so quickly.
